The Mill Creek Restoration project was completed to re-establish stream habitat for the federally endangered Okaloosa Darter. The Okaloosa Darter occurs in only six streams that drain into the north portion of Choctawhatchee Bay, FL, of which Mill Creek is the smallest. The Falcon and Eagle Golf Courses on Eglin Air Force base border most of the length of Mill Creek. The project has boosted the number of Okaloosa Darters by as much as 50 percent. Three Rivers RC&D Council, Inc. provided planning, engineering, design, construction and inspection for this project.

Restoration funding was provided by:
Eglin Air Force Base, Jackson Guard 46th Test Wing, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

Managed partnerships between Three Rivers RC&D: U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Panama City Fishery Resource Office, Eglin Air Force Base, Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission, Florida Department of Environmental Protection, U.S. Geological Survey and Loyola University.

Highlights of this project include:

• 3,000 linear ft. of stream channel restored
• Installation of a unique sky-lighted culvert under the Flacon 14 fairway
• Success!!! Okaloosa Darters have colonized the entire project area
